FAQs
1. How do you quote for the work?
We offer free, no-obligation quotes. For accuracy, we prefer to visit your property to assess the space and discuss your needs. This allows us to provide a fixed, transparent price upfront, so you know the full plastering cost before we start. For smaller jobs, we can often estimate based on photos and measurements.
2. How quickly can you respond to my enquiry?
All enquiries are answered within 24 hours, often much sooner. We understand the importance of clear communication and will quickly get back to you to discuss your requirements or arrange a site visit.
3. How long does it take for new plaster to dry?
Generally, a standard skim coat will be touch-dry in 24–48 hours, but it takes 5–7 days to cure fully. This can vary significantly based on room ventilation, temperature and humidity. We advise against decorating until the plaster has completely dried out and lightened to a uniform pale colour.
4. What steps do you take to ensure a clean work area?
Tidy work is a priority. Our process includes meticulously protecting floors, furniture and fittings with quality dust sheets before any work begins. We conduct a thorough clean-up at the end of the job, removing all waste and leaving the area tidy.
5. Do you only cover the areas listed?
While we focus on key areas like Hornchurch, Upminster, Brentwood, Billericay and Wanstead, we are happy to travel further afield across Essex. We are based in Romford but serve a broad surrounding region with our plastering services. Please contact us to check availability in your town.
6. Why choose Gem Plastering over a competitor?
With over 20 years of plastering expertise our services consistently received 5-star reviews. Our focus is on exceptional attention to detail and a high-quality finish every time. We offer honest, fixed pricing and treat your home with the utmost respect.
7. Are you insured?
Yes, Gem Plastering Ltd is fully covered by public liability insurance, giving you complete peace of mind throughout the plastering project. We stand by the quality of all our work.
8. Can you fix large holes or cracks in my wall?
Absolutely. We specialise in seamless plaster repairs, including plaster hole repair and fixing various cracks in plaster caused by movement or water damage.
9. Do you work with both traditional and modern methods?
Yes, our expertise covers both. We offer traditional skimming and repair work, as well as modern solutions such as dry lining and dot and dab installation for plasterboards. For projects that call for a more decorative or specialist finish, we also apply venetian plaster, microcement, tadelakt and silicone render. We choose the best technique for your specific wall substrate and project goals.
10. How soon can you start the work?
This depends on our current workload. Once you approve the quote, we will confirm the earliest available start date. We always stick to the agreed-upon deadline.
